Why see a psychologist if talking to others is just as effective?

I read an article that investigated the efficacy of therapy. A group of depressed people were split up — half talked to psychotherapists, half talked to humanities professors with no psychological expertise. Apparently, the number of people who felt better after talking to psychotherapists about equaled the number who felt better after taking to the professors. This seems to mean that psychotherapists are relatively useless. After all, what good are they if others without their expertise can be just as effective?

What is your view on this study? Does it prove anything? Are psychotherapists really an unnecessary part of society?

The key in that experiment was that there was someone willing to listen and offer advice. That’s a psychologists job… and to also search for signs of mental instability. Anyone who is depressed can be cured by having someone to talk to who is willing to listen and offer help. But most people who do go through depression don’t have anyone like that, and if they are smart they will seek professional help. If they did have someone to talk to they probably could have avoided the depression in the first place. So yes that experiment proved many things, including why psychologist are fundamental to society.

Why do people enjoy talking about others so much?

I hate talking with anyone about other people’s relationships. I just find it very boring. I think that there are other things that are much more interesting to talk about. I love to talk about travel, books, music, food, meditation, and animals.

When did black people start talking in the hip hop accent?

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2011 and filed under talking | 2 Comments »

Like Talking more "modern" and faster cause I was watching some 1970’s movies with black people in it and they talk different than how black people talk today.Hip hop came out in the 1980’s but when did people start using the hip hop speech tone or just speeded up voice tone.Slang is always changing but when did people talk more modern and not like an old man or woman.

This is why we should be allowed to give questions themselves on Yahoo! Answers a thumbs-down. Way to generalize.

I have a toy that is blue and red and says "playskool" on the side in white. i know it’s missing pieces but it has 1 blue man with a yellow hard helmet on and 2 signs. 1 sign is "stop" and the other sign is a railroad warning. can anyone give me information on what this toy is called and when it was made?

thank you!

Your truck is from the 60s or 70s. It had several other signs with it – school crossing, watch for children, one way, and maybe two stop signs. There is one for sale on ebay right now and they are asking $100 for it, but it is in close to pristine condition.

Where can my dad sell his Star Wars collectables?

Posted by admin on February 4th, 2011 and filed under collectables | 3 Comments »

My dad has an extensive collection of Star Wars collectables and memorabilia, still in their original cartons and packaging. He wants to sell it all and doesnt have access to a computer. I am trying to find out where he can go or who he can contact to find out more information. We dont want to use ebay due to the fact I’m moving and he’s in another state..Does anyone have any suggestions?

In my opinion, you should first find out what he has and determine the value. Once you know what you are dealing with, you have alot of options. Its easy to post ads on Craigslist or other free classified sites listing items forsale and with an asking price. There are a number of auction houses that specialize in vintage toys that might be worth talking to like www.hakes.com or www.ha.com. If I knew where the collection was located, I might be able to further point you to a good outlet.
